Role Overview
The Head of Communities will lead the growth, engagement, and development of our online and offline communities. This role is designed for a dynamic and empathetic leader who can cultivate genuine relationships, inspire participation, and create a thriving sense of belonging across diverse member groups.
You will oversee community strategy, digital platform management, and leadership development within the community network — driving engagement, fostering testimonies, and encouraging participation in programs and NextSteps initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Community Growth & Retention
Develop and execute strategies to grow community membership across platforms.
Monitor retention rates, engagement levels, and member satisfaction.
Implement targeted campaigns and initiatives to attract new members and re-engage inactive ones.
2. Engagement & Program Participation
Drive active participation in programs, content sessions, and NextSteps initiatives.
Curate and manage engaging activities that build stronger connections among members.
Collect, document, and share impactful member stories and testimonies that reflect community transformation.
3. Community Platform Management
Manage and optimize community engagement platforms such as Discord, WhatsApp, Circle, or Slack.
Ensure seamless moderation, responsiveness, and a safe, inclusive environment across all channels.
Leverage analytics to track engagement metrics and identify growth opportunities.
4. Leadership & People Development
Identify, train, and mentor community and small group leaders for effective member engagement.
Foster leadership pipelines within the community, empowering volunteers and local leaders.
Organize leadership development programs that strengthen community cohesion and alignment with organizational values.
5. Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with content, events, and communications teams to align community initiatives with broader organizational goals.
Serve as the primary liaison between members, leaders, and internal teams, ensuring clear communication and timely feedback loops.
Represent the voice of the community in strategic planning and decision-making forums.

Requirements
Experience & Qualifications
2–5 years of experience in online community management, customer engagement, or small group leadership.
Demonstrated experience leading small groups at senior or strategic levels.
Pastoral or people leadership experience within a faith-based, start-up, or tech-driven environment is a strong advantage.
Background in digital communication tools and online platforms (e.g., Slack, Discord, Circle, WhatsApp, etc.).
Required Skills & Competencies
Proven expertise in managing online communities and fostering engagement.
Excellent people and communication skills; approachable, empathetic, and motivational.
Strong leadership and small-group facilitation skills.
Ability to design and implement community engagement strategies.
