We are looking to recruit a Director of Ferry Operations who will d evelop and implement strategic plans to optimi s e ferry services and achieve operational goals.
This role is essential to the success of a major international project based in Lagos State.
Job Objective
The pri ma ry purpose of the job
To provide strategic leadership and direction in the daily operations of ferry services, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective transportation while maintaining compliance with all relevant maritime regulations.
The role focuses on optimi s ing schedules, managing staff, improving customer service, maintaining fleet reliability, and fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement. The objective is to maximi s e operational performance, profitability, and customer satisfaction while adhering to environmental and safety standards.
Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities
This job is expected to perform strategic and operational tasks and responsibilities, as well as the results to be achieved.
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Planning
Develop and implement strategic plans to optimi s e ferry services and achieve operational goals.
Identify opportunities for growth, improvement, and innovation in ferry operations.
Collaborate with senior management and stakeholders to ensure alignment with the project objectives.
Operational Oversight
Oversee the daily operations of ferry services, including scheduling, route management, and service delivery.
Ensure that all operations run efficiently, adhering to safety standards and regulatory requirements.
Monitor and manage operational budgets, ensuring cost-effectiveness and financial performance.
Ensure that vessels and equipment are properly maintained, safe, and reliable.
Safety and Compliance
Ensure compliance with all relevant maritime laws, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
Implement and enforce health, safety, and environmental protection policies.
Conduct regular safety drills and inspections to ensure passenger, crew, and vessel safety.
Liaise with regulatory bodies and maritime authorities to ensure current certifications and documentation.
Fleet and Crew Management
Oversee the management and maintenance of the ferry fleet, including vessel inspections, repairs, and upgrades.
Ensure the fleet is operating at optimal levels with minimal downtime.
Recruit, train, and supervise key personnel, including captains, crew members, and shore staff.
Develop training programs and ensure crew adherence to safety and operational protocols.
Customer Service and Experience
Ensure high customer service and satisfaction levels by managing smooth operations and timely schedules.
Address customer complaints, feedback, and concerns, implementing solutions to improve service quality.
Monitor passenger experiences to ensure safety, convenience, and comfort during transit.
Financial Management
Develop and manage the operational budget, including forecasting and financial reporting.
Oversee ticket pricing strategies, revenue collection, and cost control measures.
Analyse financial performance and identify areas for cost savings and revenue growth.
Crisis and Incident Management
Develop contingency plans for emergencies, accidents, or service disruptions.
Coordinate emergency response actions in case of incidents or accidents, ensuring minimal impact on service and safety.
Conduct post-incident reviews to identify lessons learned and improve operational practices.
Stakeholder Relations and Communication
Liaise with government agencies, local authorities, and maritime organi s ations to ensure regulatory compliance and maintain strong relationships.
Communicate regularly with stakeholders, staff, and customers to provide updates on service status, changes, or improvements.
Represent the organi s ation in meetings, conferences, and industry events.
Environmental Sustainability
Promote and implement environmentally sustainable practices in ferry operations, such as reducing emissions and fuel consumption.
Explore new technologies and methods to improve the environmental impact of ferry services.
Technology and Innovation
Oversee the implementation of new technologies, such as automated ticketing systems, fleet management software, and real-time tracking.
Monitor industry trends and innovations to stay ahead of competitors and improve operational efficiency.

Qualifications & Experience
Experience, education, and certification required of the employee performing the job)
Bachelor’s degree in Transportation Management, Business Administration, Marine Engineering, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
Network planning
Stakeholders’ consultation and VITP
Minimum of 10 years of experience in transportation operations, focus ing on marine or ferry operations preferred.
Proven track record of leadership and team management.
Relevant maritime certifications are a plus.
