Key Responsibilities
Material Identification :
Conduct inspections to identify mechanical and structural materials, including alloys, polymers, and composites.Strong understanding of mechanical materials, including metals, alloys, and composite structures.Experience with material testing techniques such as PMI, spectroscopy, and hardness testing.Proficiency in using materials management software and inventory systems.Familiarity with offshore facility requirements and environments.Perform material assessments using appropriate testing methods (e.g., hardness testing, PMI [Positive Material Identification], etc.).Confirm materials against project specifications, standards, and regulatory requirements.Cataloging and Documentation :
Maintain a detailed inventory of identified materials, including specifications, grades, and traceability records.Develop and update materials catalogs, ensuring proper classification and alignment with company systems.Ensure data accuracy in materials management software and databases.Work with cross-functional teams to ensure timely identification and availability of materials for projects and maintenance activities.Provide technical information to engineers and technicians regarding material applications and limitations.Compliance and Standards :
Adhere to relevant industry standards (e.g., API, ASME, ISO, NACE) and regulatory guidelines.Ensure all materials handling aligns with safety, environmental, and quality management systems.Participate in audits and inspections related to materials management.Equipment Handling :
Operate and maintain equipment used for material testing and identification.Ensure proper calibration and functionality of testing tools.Requirements
Education and Experience :
Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in materials identification and management, preferably in the offshore oil and gas or energy sector.Technical Skills :
Strong understanding of mechanical materials, including metals, alloys, and composite structures.Experience with material testing techniques such as PMI, spectroscopy, and hardness testing.Proficiency in using materials management software and inventory systems.Familiarity with offshore facility requirements and environments.Certifications (Preferred) :
Offshore survival training and certification (e.g., BOSIET).Non-destructive testing (NDT) certifications (e.g., Level II in UT, RT, or MT).Material handling and testing certifications (e.g., API or ASME material codes).Soft Skills :
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.Ability to work under pressure in dynamic offshore environmentsWorking Conditions :
Rotational offshore schedule with extended stays at offshore locations.Exposure to marine environments and extreme weather conditions.Compliance with offshore health, safety, and environmental protocols.
