Job description

Quality is what separates a completed repair from a job that is done right. As a Quality Assurance Officer, you will play an important role in ensuring that vehicles serviced or repaired at the workshop meet the required technical standards, safety expectations and customer requirements before they are released. You will inspect vehicles at different stages of the service process, identify defects, verify completed repairs and ensure that any issues discovered are properly addressed. Working closely with technicians and other workshop teams, you will help reduce avoidable rework, improve service delivery and maintain customer confidence. This role is ideal for someone with a good understanding of automotive repairs, a sharp eye for detail and the confidence to uphold quality standards even when doing so means requesting additional work.

Who are we looking for?

  • You are detail-oriented and can identify defects, incomplete repairs and workmanship issues that others may overlook.
  • You have a sound understanding of vehicle servicing, diagnostics and repair processes.
  • You are analytical and can assess repair quality using evidence rather than assumptions.
  • You are confident enough to raise quality concerns and request corrective action when required.
  • You are objective, honest and able to make independent quality decisions.
  • You are organised and can maintain accurate inspection records and reports.
  • You can work effectively with technicians and other workshop teams while maintaining independent oversight.
  • You take workplace safety seriously and understand the importance of following HSE procedures.

Your Responsibilities…

Quality Inspection and Control

  • You will inspect vehicles before, during and after servicing or repairs, based on the job requirements and approved inspection checklists.
  • You will conduct final quality checks on mechanical, electrical, diagnostic, air-conditioning, wheel alignment, bodywork, painting and other workshop services within your competence.
  • You will verify that completed repairs address the customer's documented complaints and the approved scope of work.
  • You will identify incomplete repairs, workmanship defects, incorrect parts, fluid leaks, warning lights, unusual noises and other signs of unresolved faults.
  • You will document identified defects, recommend corrective actions and verify that issues have been resolved before recommending vehicle release.

Compliance and Quality Standards

  • You will monitor compliance with approved repair procedures, manufacturer specifications where available, company standards and job-card instructions.
  • You will ensure inspection checklists, test results, parts records and other quality documents are accurately completed.
  • You will monitor compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental procedures within the workshop.
  • You will verify that the correct parts, tools, equipment and materials have been used and that any substitutions are authorised.
  • You will maintain independence in your quality assessments and base approval decisions on actual inspection findings.

Vehicle Testing and Delivery Approval

  • You will conduct or coordinate functional tests and road tests where necessary, safe, lawful and authorised.
  • You will confirm that reported vehicle complaints have been addressed and that relevant systems function as expected within the approved repair scope.
  • You will verify that warning indicators, unusual noises, leaks and other identified faults have been investigated and documented.
  • You will complete and sign the required quality inspection records before recommending vehicle delivery.
  • You will place vehicles that fail inspection on quality hold, notify the responsible supervisor and communicate the corrective work required.
  • You will ensure that any deferred work, limitations or outstanding concerns are properly documented and communicated.

Documentation and Reporting

  • You will maintain accurate inspection records, defect logs, non-conformance reports, rework records and quality-related customer complaints.
  • You will prepare daily, weekly or periodic reports covering inspections, pass and fail outcomes, recurring defects and corrective actions.
  • You will identify recurring technician errors and recommend coaching, training or process improvements where necessary.
  • You will track the causes and cost implications of avoidable rework where relevant information is available.
  • You will ensure all quality records are traceable to the relevant job cards and accessible for authorised reviews or audits.

Continuous Improvement and Collaboration

  • You will recommend improvements to workshop processes, inspection checklists, documentation and customer handover procedures.
  • You will review customer feedback and rework trends to identify recurring quality gaps and their possible causes.
  • You will work with Service Advisors, Service Engineers, technicians, Operations and Procurement/Inventory to prevent repeated quality issues.
  • You will support training and awareness on workmanship, inspection procedures, attention to detail and quality expectations.
  • You will promote accountability, evidence-based decision-making and a culture of continuous improvement.
  • You will monitor corrective and preventive actions to ensure identified issues are resolved and report recurring problems to management.

Safety, Independence and Professional Conduct

  • You will exercise impartial judgment and report inspection findings accurately, even when they require additional repairs or rework.
  • You will never alter inspection records, conceal defects or certify work that has not been properly inspected.
  • You will immediately escalate safety-critical defects, suspected misuse, falsified records and repeated non-compliance.
  • You will use the required protective equipment and follow workshop safety procedures during inspections and tests.
  • You will protect customer information and company records while maintaining professional working relationships.

What Success looks like…

  • Vehicles consistently meet the required quality and safety standards before delivery.
  • Required inspections are completed and properly documented for all applicable jobs.
  • Defects and incomplete repairs are identified and escalated before vehicles are released.
  • Corrective actions are completed and verified within agreed timelines.
  • Avoidable rework and repeat repairs caused by workmanship issues reduce over time.
  • Customer complaints related to repair quality decrease.
  • Quality reports and inspection records are accurate, complete and submitted on time.
  • Workshop teams demonstrate improved compliance with approved procedures and quality standards.
  • Recommendations from quality reviews contribute to better workshop processes and service delivery.

To be considered for this role you should have…

  • A sound understanding of automotive servicing, vehicle diagnostics and repair workflows.
  • The ability to inspect vehicles and evaluate the quality of completed repairs.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking and fault-identification skills.
  • The ability to distinguish verified technical findings from assumptions.
  • Good documentation, report-writing and data-tracking skills.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • The confidence to raise quality concerns and request corrective action when necessary.
  • Strong integrity, impartiality, accountability and professional judgment.
  • The ability to collaborate with technical teams while maintaining independent quality oversight.
  • An understanding of workshop health, safety and environmental practices and safe vehicle testing procedures.

Challenges you may face in this role

  • Identifying faults that may not be immediately visible during routine inspections.
  • Maintaining independent quality standards while working closely with technicians and other workshop teams.
  • Requesting additional repairs or rework when completed jobs do not meet the required standards.
  • Managing disagreements when inspection findings require technicians to revisit completed work.
  • Ensuring inspections and documentation are completed without unnecessarily delaying vehicle delivery.
  • Identifying recurring defects and determining the underlying causes rather than simply addressing individual cases.
  • Balancing inspection demands with workshop schedules and operational priorities.

The Goodies…

  • Competitive salary of NGN250,000 monthly.
  • Opportunity to develop your expertise in automotive quality assurance and workshop operations.
  • Exposure to vehicle diagnostics, repair processes and quality management practices.
  • Opportunity for learning and professional growth.
  • A great working environment and supportive team.
