TECHNICAL FACILITIES & BIOMEDICAL SERVICES OFFICER Industry: Healthcare | Oncology Location: Lekki Phase 1, Lagos Employment Type: Full-Time Salary: ₦300,000 per month Experience Required: Minimum of 3-5 Years Reports To: Head of Clinical Services / Management ABOUT THE ROLE Our client, a leading healthcare organisation within the oncology sector , is seeking a technically competent, hands-on and highly organised Technical Facilities & Biomedical Services Officer to oversee the facility's infrastructure, medical equipment, utilities and technical systems. The successful candidate will ensure that the hospital remains safe, functional, compliant and fully operational by coordinating preventive maintenance, equipment servicing, repairs, technical troubleshooting, vendor management and facility support. The role requires someone capable of working across biomedical equipment, electrical and mechanical systems, IT infrastructure, utilities and general facility maintenance , while responding promptly to technical issues that may affect patient care. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Medical & Biomedical Equipment Management Manage the day-to-day maintenance and functionality of medical and biomedical equipment. Conduct routine inspection, testing, calibration, servicing and preventive maintenance. Maintain accurate equipment inventories, maintenance schedules, service records and calibration certificates. Coordinate the installation, commissioning and testing of new medical equipment. Identify faulty, obsolete or high-risk equipment and recommend repair, replacement or upgrade. Ensure critical clinical equipment remains available and operational. Technical Troubleshooting & Repairs Diagnose and coordinate resolution of electrical, electronic, mechanical and technical faults. Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and facility-related technical emergencies. Carry out basic repairs where technically competent and safe to do so. Coordinate specialist repairs with approved vendors and technical service providers. Conduct post-repair testing before equipment or systems are returned to service. Maintain records of faults, repairs, parts replaced and equipment downtime. Hospital Facilities & Infrastructure Oversee the maintenance and functionality of hospital infrastructure, including electrical, mechanical, plumbing and other building systems. Monitor facility conditions and coordinate repairs and corrective maintenance. Conduct regular inspections to identify potential infrastructure and safety risks. Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities across the facility. Ensure clinical, administrative and support areas remain safe, functional and fit for purpose. Support facility improvement, refurbishment and technical upgrade projects. Utilities & Critical Systems Monitor the availability and performance of essential utilities, including electricity, water, generators, air-conditioning and other critical systems. Coordinate routine servicing and maintenance of generators, HVAC systems and other facility equipment. Monitor utility consumption and identify opportunities for improved efficiency and cost control. Escalate utility failures or technical risks that could disrupt clinical operations. Support business continuity and emergency preparedness for critical infrastructure failures. IT & Technical Systems Support Coordinate basic maintenance and operational support for facility IT and technical systems. Liaise with IT service providers on network, hardware, connectivity and system-related issues where required. Ensure technical systems supporting clinical and administrative operations remain functional. Maintain appropriate records of technical incidents and service interventions. Escalate specialised IT issues to approved technical service providers. Oncology & Clinical Equipment Support Provide technical support for equipment used in oncology and other specialised clinical services. Work closely with clinicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals to understand equipment requirements. Support the safe operation and maintenance of infusion pumps, patient monitors, ECG machines, laboratory equipment, diagnostic devices, sterilisation equipment and other medical equipment. Support installation and commissioning of new equipment. Assist with coordinating appropriate user training for clinical staff. Promote proper equipment handling to reduce avoidable damage and downtime. Preventive Maintenance & Safety Develop and maintain preventive maintenance schedules based on manufacturer recommendations and operational priorities. Ensure regular servicing, calibration and performance testing of critical equipment. Conduct routine technical and facility safety inspections. Identify potential risks and recommend corrective measures. Ensure defective or unsafe equipment is appropriately isolated and removed from use. Support compliance with health, safety, infection prevention and facility standards. Vendor & Contractor Management Liaise with equipment manufacturers, suppliers, contractors and third-party maintenance providers. Coordinate maintenance and repair activities with external vendors. Monitor contractor performance, response times and service quality. Review technical service reports and verify completed work. Maintain records of warranties, service agreements and maintenance contracts. Support procurement by providing technical specifications and evaluating equipment and services where required. Documentation & Reporting Maintain comprehensive records of equipment, facility maintenance, repairs and technical interventions. Prepare periodic reports on equipment availability, downtime, maintenance activities and outstanding technical issues. Maintain maintenance schedules, service agreements, warranties and calibration documentation. Track recurring technical problems and recommend solutions. Ensure all technical documentation is properly organised and readily available for audits and inspections. Staff Support & Training Provide guidance to clinical and administrative staff on the safe and appropriate use of equipment. Support user training for newly installed equipment. Develop basic equipment-use and maintenance guidelines where required. Educate staff on appropriate equipment handling and escalation procedures. Work collaboratively with clinical, administrative and support teams to maintain operational continuity. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs) Performance will be assessed based on: Medical equipment uptime and availability. Preventive maintenance completion rate. Equipment breakdown response time. Facility maintenance response and resolution time. Equipment and infrastructure downtime. Calibration and servicing compliance. Reduction in recurring equipment failures. Vendor and contractor service performance. Accuracy and completeness of maintenance records. Compliance with technical, safety and facility standards. Availability and reliability of critical utilities. Overall facility operational readiness. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE The successful candidate should possess: A Bachelor's degree or HND in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology or a related technical discipline . Minimum of 3-5 years' relevant experience in facilities management, technical maintenance, biomedical engineering, hospital engineering or medical equipment management. Previous experience within a hospital, diagnostic centre, specialist clinic, oncology facility or healthcare environment is strongly preferred. Practical experience in medical equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance and repairs. Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical and biomedical systems. Experience coordinating vendors, contractors and technical service providers. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, equipment specifications and basic schematics. Strong documentation, reporting and record-management skills. Professional certification or membership of a recognised engineering or technical body will be an advantage. The individual must be responsive, safety-conscious, organised and capable of coordinating multiple maintenance activities simultaneously. Experience within an oncology, hospital, diagnostic or specialist healthcare environment will be a significant advantage. The successful candidate should understand that equipment reliability, facility safety and technical uptime directly impact patient care and clinical operations .
