Hospital Facility Manager

Location: Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria
Industry: Healthcare – Oncology

Salary: ₦500,000 – ₦700,000 Net Monthly

Reports To: Chief Operating Officer (COO) / Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Hospital Facility Manager to oversee the efficient, safe, compliant, and sustainable operation of the hospital's physical infrastructure and support services.

The successful candidate will ensure the reliability of critical hospital systems and maintain a safe, clean, and high-quality environment that supports uninterrupted clinical operations and patient care.

The role will oversee engineering, maintenance, housekeeping, security, waste management, environmental services, utilities, and facility projects, while ensuring compliance with applicable Nigerian healthcare, safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Facilities Operations & Infrastructure Management

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation and maintenance of hospital facilities, including wards, outpatient areas, laboratories, diagnostic areas, operating theatres, offices, and support areas.
  • Ensure optimal performance of MEP systems, HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, medical gas systems, generators, UPS, and other critical infrastructure.
  • Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance programmes.
  • Ensure reliable power, water, cooling, ventilation, and other essential utilities.
  • Supervise housekeeping, laundry, security, waste management, landscaping, and environmental services.
  • Ensure appropriate environmental conditions for biomedical and clinical equipment in collaboration with clinical engineering/biomedical teams.

2. Regulatory Compliance, Safety & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with applicable Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH), NHIA/HMO, fire safety, environmental, occupational health and safety, and healthcare facility requirements.
  • Conduct regular facility inspections, safety audits, and risk assessments.
  • Develop and maintain emergency preparedness and response procedures, including fire drills, evacuation plans, and disaster response protocols.
  • Ensure proper segregation, handling, storage, and disposal of medical and general waste.
  • Maintain accurate facility documentation required for regulatory inspections, accreditation, and audits.
  • Support infection prevention and control requirements relating to the hospital environment and facility operations.

3. Budgeting, Cost Control & Vendor Management

  • Develop and manage the annual facilities and maintenance budget.
  • Monitor operational expenditure and identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency.
  • Manage relationships and contracts with contractors, vendors, and service providers.
  • Evaluate vendor performance and ensure timely delivery of contracted services.
  • Monitor energy and utility consumption and implement cost-saving initiatives.
  • Ensure appropriate procurement and availability of maintenance materials, equipment, and supplies.

4. Infrastructure Projects & Development

  • Plan and supervise renovation, refurbishment, expansion, and facility improvement projects.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders.
  • Oversee installation and upgrades of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, medical gas, power, and other hospital infrastructure.
  • Ensure projects are delivered within agreed timelines, budgets, quality standards, and healthcare facility requirements.
  • Provide input into long-term infrastructure planning aligned with the hospital's growth strategy.

5. Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and supervise engineers, technicians, maintenance personnel, cleaners, security teams, and other facility support staff.
  • Establish clear performance standards, responsibilities, and KPIs.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and identify training and development needs.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with clinical, administrative, and management teams to resolve facility-related issues efficiently.

6. Reporting & Performance Monitoring

  • Prepare regular reports covering maintenance activities, compliance, incidents, utility consumption, equipment uptime, expenditure, and facility performance.
  • Monitor and improve key facility performance indicators, including facility uptime, maintenance response times, safety incidents, preventive maintenance compliance, energy efficiency, budget adherence, vendor performance, and patient/staff satisfaction.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Building Services, Architecture, or a related discipline.
  • 7–10 years of progressive facilities management experience, preferably within a tertiary hospital, specialist hospital, oncology center, or other large healthcare facility.
  • Strong practical knowledge of hospital MEP systems, HVAC, generators, UPS, medical gases, plumbing, electrical infrastructure, and critical utilities.
  • Experience managing healthcare facility maintenance, compliance audits, contractors, and service providers.
  • Good knowledge of applicable Nigerian healthcare, environmental, fire safety, and occupational health and safety requirements.
  • Proven experience managing multidisciplinary teams and facility budgets.
  • Demonstrated project management experience involving hospital renovation, expansion, or infrastructure upgrades.
  • Strong documentation, reporting, problem-solving, and stakeholder-management skills.

Professional certifications such as COREN, IFMA, NEBOSH, PMP, or relevant facilities/engineering certifications will be an advantage.

Compensation

₦500,000 – ₦700,000 net monthly, depending on experience and suitability.
