Job description

Job Title: Accounts Officer (3months contract) Sector: Oil & Gas Servicing (EPC) Location: Lekki (Chevron) Workmode: Fulltime Onsite Reports To: Finance Advisor The Accounts Officer will be responsible for supporting the Finance and Accounts department by processing day-to-day accounting transactions, maintaining accurate financial records using Sage accounting software, assisting with bank reconciliations, supporting statutory tax compliance, preparing financial reports, and providing assistance during internal and external audit exercises. The role ensures that financial transactions are accurately recorded, company policies are adhered to, and applicable accounting standards and statutory regulations are complied with. Key Responsibilities Financial Accounting Record daily financial transactions accurately in Sage Accounting Software. Maintain the general ledger and ensure proper classification of all accounting entries. Process journals, accruals, prepayments, and adjusting entries. Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation. Ensure all accounting records are properly filed and readily retrievable. Accounts Payable Process invoices after verifying supporting documentation and approvals. Prepare payment schedules for management approval. Reconcile statements and resolve discrepancies promptly. Monitor outstanding payables and ensure timely settlement. Accounts Receivable Prepare customer invoices where applicable. Monitor customer payments and outstanding receivables. Follow up on overdue balances in collaboration with relevant departments. Maintain an updated receivables ageing schedule. Cash and Bank Management Prepare daily cash and bank transaction postings. Perform monthly bank reconciliations. Investigate and resolve reconciling items. Maintain proper records of bank transactions. Financial Reporting Assist in preparing: Monthly management accounts Trial balance Income Statement Statement of Financial Position Cash Flow reports Budget variance reports Support month-end and year-end closing activities. Tax Compliance Support the preparation and filing of: PAYE VAT Withholding Tax (WHT) Pension schedules NSITF ITF NHF (where applicable) Ensure statutory remittances are accurately computed and processed within regulatory deadlines. Maintain proper statutory compliance documentation. Audit Support Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation. Assist external and internal auditors during audit exercises. Respond to audit queries within agreed timelines. Support implementation of audit recommendations. Financial Controls Ensure compliance with company financial policies and procedures. Maintain confidentiality of financial information. Report any irregularities, control weaknesses, or suspected fraud. Ensure proper authorization of financial transactions. Record Management Maintain accurate electronic and physical accounting records. Ensure proper document retention in accordance with company policy. Support finance documentation for regulatory inspections and management reviews. Continuous Improvement Recommend improvements to accounting processes. Assist with finance process documentation and SOP implementation. Support finance system improvements where required. Perform any other finance-related duties assigned by Management. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related discipline. ACA, ACCA, or ICAN (Part Qualified) is an added advantage. Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of management and relevant stakeholders. Must be result oriented and committed to the goals and vision of the company. Experience A minimum 2 – 4 years of experience in Accounting within the oil and gas industry. Demonstrated experience using Sage Accounting Software . Experience supporting financial reporting, tax compliance, and audits.
