Job DescriptionEllasot Consulting is recruiting on behalf of a reputable company seeking a competent and detail-oriented Business Development Manager /Chemical Engineer in the oil and gas sector to be responsible for identifying business opportunities, preparing competitive technical and commercial proposals, coordinating bid submissions, and ensuring compliance with client and regulatory requirements.The ideal candidate will possess a strong chemical engineering background, proven sales experience, a deep understanding of procurement processes in the upstream oil and gas industry and excellent business development, proposal writing, and presentation skills to drive revenue growth and expand the company's market presence.Also for identifying new business opportunities, developing strategic relationships with clients in the oil and gas industry, and delivering compelling presentations on the company's chemical products and solutions.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the end-to-end tendering process for oil and gas projects. This includes reviewing tender documents, preparing technical and commercial proposals, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, estimating project costs, assessing risks, and submitting competitive bids that align with company objectives and client requirements
Key ResponsibilitiesBusiness Development & Sales- Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities within the upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas sectors.
- Develop and implement business development strategies to achieve revenue and profitability targets.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients.
- Conduct market research to identify industry trends, customer needs, and emerging opportunities.
- Represent the company at industry conferences, exhibitions, and networking events.
Proposal Development
- Lead the preparation of high-quality technical and commercial proposals in response to client requests and tenders.
- Collaborate with technical, operations, and procurement teams to develop competitive proposals.
- Ensure proposals comply with client specifications, company standards, and submission deadlines.
- Prepare cost estimates, pricing strategies, and value propositions for chemical products and services.
Technical Presentations
- Deliver professional presentations to prospective and existing clients on the company's chemical products, technologies, and services.
- Demonstrate the technical benefits, application methods, and commercial value of products.
- Address client technical questions and recommend suitable chemical solutions based on operational requirements.
- Support product demonstrations, pilot tests, and technical evaluations.
Client Relationship Management
- Develop long-term partnerships with key decision-makers within client organizations.
- Conduct regular client visits to understand operational challenges and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Manage negotiations leading to contract awards.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and retention.
Tender Management
- Monitor tender opportunities from IOCs, NOCs, EPC contractors, and service companies.
- Coordinate the complete tender process from bid identification to submission.
- Maintain a database of tenders, proposals, and business development activities.
Market Intelligence
- Monitor competitor activities, pricing, and product offerings.
- Gather customer feedback to support product improvement and innovation.
- Provide regular market intelligence reports to management.
Reporting
- Prepare weekly and monthly business development reports.
- Maintain accurate sales forecasts and pipeline reports.
- Track proposal success rates and business performance metrics.
- Monitor tender portals, client websites, and procurement platforms for new business opportunities.
- Review Invitations to Tender (ITT), Requests for Proposal (RFP), Requests for Quotation (RFQ), and pre qualification documents.
- Analyze tender specifications, scope of work, drawings, and contractual requirements.
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, construction, operations, HSE, QA/QC, finance, and supply chain teams to prepare comprehensive bids.
- Prepare technical proposals in accordance with client specifications and industry standards.
- Develop commercial proposals including pricing, cost estimates, schedules, and payment terms.
- Perform quantity take-offs and cost estimation for mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, piping, civil, and maintenance projects.
- Obtain quotations from suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Evaluate vendor quotations and recommend the most competitive technical and commercial options.
- Conduct risk assessments and identify contractual, commercial, and technical risks associated with each tender.
- Prepare bid clarifications and respond to client technical queries during the tender stage.
- Ensure compliance with client requirements, company procedures, and applicable oil and gas industry standards.
- Coordinate bid review meetings and obtain management approvals before submission.
- Submit tenders within specified deadlines through electronic procurement portals or hard-copy submissions.
- Maintain an organized database of tender documents, bid history, and pricing information.
- Participate in post-tender negotiations, technical clarification meetings, and commercial discussions with clients.
- Support contract handover to project execution teams after award.
- Analyze unsuccessful bids and recommend improvements for future tenders.
- Maintain confidentiality of commercial and technical information throughout the bidding process.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering (required).
- Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) is an added advantage.
- Membership of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), COREN registration, or other relevant professional bodies is an advantage.
- Minimum of 5–8 years' experience in business development, technical sales, or commercial roles within the oil and gas industry.
- Proven experience selling specialty chemicals or industrial chemical solutions to oil and gas companies.
- Demonstrated experience in proposal writing, tender preparation, and bid management.
- Experience delivering technical presentations to executives and technical stakeholders.

RequirementsEducational Qualification Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Engineering, Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, or related disciplines. A Master’s Degree will be an added advantage. Professional Certifications Candidates must possess at least one of the following certifications: Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) Certified in Logistics, Transportation and Distribution (CLTD) Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) Certification through the Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM) is required. Experience Minimum of 8–15 years of relevant work experience in the Oil & Gas industry. Strong experience in supply chain management, procurement, logistics, inventory, warehousing, and vendor management.
