Job Summary
- Consumer Lending Officer in a bank is responsible for originating, underwriting, approving, servicing, and managing consumer loans—such as credit cards, auto loans, and personal loans—while ensuring regulatory compliance, credit quality, and strong customer experience.
- Consumer Lending Officer covers all activities related to providing credit to individuals for personal, household, or family use. This includes loan growth, risk management, customer service, and compliance with banking regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Loan Origination & Growth:
- Develop strategies to grow consumer loan portfolios.
- Generate new business through existing and prospective customers.
- Partner with branch managers and sales teams to drive loan production.
Underwriting & Credit Assessment:
- Review loan applications, credit reports, income statements, and financial documents.
- Assess borrower creditworthiness and recommend appropriate loan products.
- Establish and negotiate loan terms within bank guidelines.
- Approve loans within delegated authority.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to federal and state lending laws (e.g., FDIC, Regulation O, Regulation W).
- Provide accurate disclosures on interest rates, fees, and repayment obligations.
- Maintain proper documentation and follow safety-and-soundness standards.
Customer Service & Support:
- Assist customers with loan applications and documentation.
- Educate borrowers on loan options and repayment obligations.
- Handle inquiries, complaints, and dispute resolution
Portfolio Management:

Monitor loan accounts for timely payments and delinquencies.

Business Development & Deposit Growth:

- Work with legal and compliance teams on disclosures, policies, and regulatory interpretation.
- Support internal audit reviews and oversight of lending practices.
