The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture seeks suitable Nigerian nationals for the positions below at the Institute’s Headquarters in Ibadan.
Position: Research Technician II
Contract: 2-years renewable contract
Location: Ibadan
Closing Date: 24 July, 2026.
DUTIES:
- Assist with culture media and substrate preparation, and maintain laboratory and related facilities for propagation research.
- Execute culture initiation and maintenance activities for tissue culture laboratory and screenhouse propagation trials.
- Carry out routine data collection for propagation experiments, ensuring accurate labelling, documentation, and traceability.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory and screenhouse Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols during routine operations.
- Supervise trainees and temporary labour engaged in propagation research activities.
- Maintain aseptic conditions and ensure the cleanliness and orderliness of laboratories, nurseries, and related work areas.
- Perform any other job-related duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.
Requirements
QUALIFICATION:
OND in Plant Science, Crop Production, Agricultural Technology, Biotechnology, or a related field with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience performing a similar role in a well-structured environment.
COMPETENCIES:
The ideal candidate must have:
- Knowledge of tissue culture laboratory operations, aseptic techniques, and experience with banana or other vegetatively propagated crop research.
- Proficiency in preparing culture media, substrates, and laboratory materials, with knowledge of hydroponic and screenhouse production systems.
- Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines while maintaining high laboratory standards.
- Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and supervisory skills, with the ability to lead trainees, manage temporary labour, and work effectively in a team.
