POSITION SUMMARY
The Consultant Urologist will provide advanced specialist care in the diagnosis, medical and surgical management of diseases affecting the urinary tract system in both male and female patients, as well as male reproductive health conditions. The role requires high-level surgical competence, clinical leadership, and participation in emergency urological care within a multidisciplinary hospital setting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Diagnose and manage urological conditions including kidney stones, prostate diseases, urinary tract infections, and urological cancers.
Perform advanced urological surgeries including prostatectomy, nephrectomy, cystoscopy, and stone removal procedures.
Manage emergency urological cases such as acute urinary retention, renal colic, and trauma-related urological injuries.
Conduct outpatient consultations and specialist follow-up care.
Perform diagnostic procedures including ultrasound-guided urology assessments and endoscopic procedures.
Lead inpatient ward rounds and surgical case management.
Develop individualized treatment plans for complex urological cases.
Collaborate with radiologists, oncologists, and general surgeons for multidisciplinary care.
Supervise junior doctors, medical officers, and surgical trainees.
Ensure accurate documentation of surgical procedures and clinical findings.
Participate in on-call rota for urological emergencies.
Lead morbidity and mortality reviews and clinical audits within the urology unit.
Ensure adherence to infection prevention and surgical safety standards.
Provide patient education on urological health and preventive care.
Contribute to development and implementation of clinical protocols.
Participate in hospital governance and quality improvement initiatives.
Support community outreach programs on prostate and kidney health awareness.
QUALIFICATIONS
MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
Fellowship of West African College of Surgeons (FWACS – Urology) or equivalent.
Full registration and valid practising licence with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
Additional international certification (e.g., FEBU, MRCS Urology pathways, or equivalent) is an advantage.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of 5+ years post-fellowship experience in urology practice.
Proven experience in advanced urological surgical procedures.
Experience in tertiary hospital or specialist surgical centre preferred.
