Driven by a mission to build a borderless financial ecosystem for individuals and businesses, the institution is scaling capabilities in mobile banking, payments, lending, merchant solutions, digital identity, remittances, embedded finance, and financial inclusion platforms.
Role Overview
The Group Head, Digital Banking will serve as a senior strategic leader responsible for accelerating digital adoption, scaling digital products, driving commercial outcomes, and delivering best-in-class digital experiences across multiple African markets.
The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader with hands-on experience building high-growth digital banks or fintech platforms, strong knowledge of African regulatory frameworks, and a proven track record delivering digital financial ecosystems at scale.
Key Responsibilities
1. Digital Strategy & Transformation
Lead and execute a Pan-African multi-market digital banking roadmap.
Transition the current digital MFB model into a scalable commercial digital bank.
Champion digital transformation initiatives focused on inclusion, cross-border payments, and embedded finance.
2. Product Management & Innovation
Oversee full-lifecycle digital product strategy across :
e-KYC and digital onboarding
Mobile and web banking platforms
Retail, SME, and merchant lending
Payments, bill automation, and merchant acquiring
Cross-border transfers, remittances, and foreign exchange
Digital savings, micro-investments, and wealth platforms
API-based ecosystem integrations and embedded finance
AI-driven analytics, fraud prevention, and risk controls
3. Digital Operations & Channel Excellence
Manage digital infrastructure performance, cybersecurity, resilience, and uptime.
Optimize channel performance across : Mobile App | Web Banking | USSD | APIs | Merchant Portals | Agent Networks
Ensure seamless service delivery, automated support systems, and efficient dispute resolution.
4. Regulatory Compliance & Governance
Collaborate with regulators across Africa (CBN, BoU, BCEAO, SARB, NIBSS, etc.).
Ensure compliance with AML / CFT, cybersecurity, consumer protection, and digital banking frameworks.
Support market entry approvals, sandbox programs, and licensing processes.
5. Partnerships & Ecosystem Growth
Build strategic alliances with payment processors, telcos, fintechs, and remittance providers.
Expand embedded finance solutions across retail, logistics, e-commerce, mobility, and enterprise ecosystems.
6. Commercial Leadership & P&L Ownership
Lead customer acquisition, engagement, retention, and monetization strategies.
Deliver profitability through automation, scale, and operational efficiencies.
Own digital revenue performance and cost-to-serve optimization.
7. Leadership & Culture Building
Build and lead a high-performing Pan-African digital banking leadership team.
Foster a culture of innovation, compliance, excellence, and customer-first execution.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
Bachelors degree in Finance, Technology, Engineering, Business, or related fields.
MSc / MBA preferred.
Certifications in Fintech, Digital Banking, Agile, Strategy, or Product Leadership are advantageous.
Experience
10-15 years in digital banking, fintech, mobile money, or financial technology leadership.
Minimum 5 years in senior / executive roles.
Proven experience launching or scaling digital banking solutions in multiple African jurisdictions.
Technical Competencies
Strong knowledge of core banking systems, API architecture, cloud platforms, and cybersecurity.
Expertise in payments processing, switching, identity verification, reg-tech, fraud management, and financial compliance frameworks.
